Blanche Webb left most of her large estate, worth approximately $620,000, to four groups including Lort Smith Animal Hospital and the Lost Dogs’ Home. However, those organisations are yet to receive the money.

Ms Webb was a former tram conductor and passionate animal lover who died in 2009 aged 86.

Lort Smith has launched legal action against the executor of the Will, Reservoir solicitor Anthony Frank Natoli, to try to flush out the cash.

The Lost Dogs’ Home also called in its lawyers when it realised it had also been promised part of the proceeds of the estate.

Staff at her former nursing home, Hilltop in Preston, said Ms Webb often publicly discussed her intention to leave her money to animal welfare charities.
